Golden Rule: Self Love by Daniele Daugherty
“Treat others as you wish to be treated”
We all know this rule, perhaps the first rule we ever learned as little kids, along with please and thank you and no tattling on each other. A lot of time is spent on this principle throughout life and can be very difficult to abide by the idea of it.
Where do we fall in the equation? As humans, we are very critical and hard on ourselves; usually far more than anyone else. Our culture can have a great impact on this as well; we often strive to keep up with the status quo, social media, etc.
Bottom line: You need to treat yourself how you want to be treated. Ask yourself this: if a friend, co-worker/boss, family member, spouse/partner treated you the way you treated yourself mentally, would you tolerate it and/or allow them space in your life? If the answer is no, then you need to check yourself.
You deserve the same respect you would give any of the above listed people, an elder or stranger on the street. Start practicing some self love, self compassion. And do in any way that translates to you: self care, a nap, yoga class, hot bubble bath with a glass of wine, etc. Remember, you did not earn it, you deserve it.
Next time you look at yourself in the mirror, smile….then wink.
~Cheers to You
